Last night, the moon turned
into a rutabega, but
when fully in the shadow of earth
it was a peeled orange
suspended in a corona
of creamy blue; a meteor
of juice shot off the surface
to some stars,
while a young fella,
he hadn't shaved since Boston
began its playoff run,
rubbed his nose and readjusted
below the belt, ready then
to watch baseball
on TV at the bar.

In case you are wondering: there was an almost full lunar eclipse that late October evening. The moon did look purple and then orange, but some people were too busy watching the Red Sox beat the Yankees to win the ALCS on their way to winning their first World Series since like 1912 to see it. We all have different priorities.
